Phoenix, AZ (KNXV) — A Phoenix woman is accused of not leaving enough water for puppies left outside, leading to the death of one of the dogs.

Police documents say an Arizona Humane Society investigator was called to a home near 16th Street and Southern Avenue on Tuesday.

Four puppies and one adult dog were found outside at the home with no water inside of a dry container. The high temperature on Tuesday reached 107 degrees.

Police say one of the puppies was rushed to an animal hospital in critical condition where it died.

Ruby Maude Marlow, 38, was questioned by officials and said she checked them in the morning and saw they had about a gallon of water. She said the dogs frequently knock over their bowls of water.

“What am I supposed to do?” Marlow asked when questioned by officials. They advised she should have left multiple containers of water for them, knowing they may knock over at least one of them.

She was booked into jail on five counts of animal cruelty.
