Riviera Beach, FL (WPTV) — Talk about paying it forward.
A charity known for getting homeless veterans back on their feet is giving a big upgrade to a local veteran.
Stand Down is making sure a mobile home is given to 88-year-old Army veteran Bob Tosetti free of charge.
It was donated to the charity a few weeks back by a veteran who was moving to another state.
A small ceremony with members from American Legion Post 268 in Rivera Beach and Stand Down made it official Wednesday.
Stand Down founder Roy Foster said the words Tosetti’s been waiting to hear.
“We are honored to present you with the keys of entry to your new house,” said Foster outside the home.
Tosetti served in the 1950s and lately, was living in a much smaller trailer.
“I can’t believe that it’s happening you know, I just can’t believe that it’s happening. I just thought I’d live forever in that little trailer that I was living in,” said Tosetti.
“Veterans are everything. I mean, some of them gave up their lives for this country,” Tosetti added.
This donation means a lot to Tosetti’s fellow American Legion members.
He’s known as “Uncle Bob” at post 268.
“Everybody loved it. It was emotional for everybody. He’s 88-years-old and still riding his motorcycle and supporting everything we do. He’s a great guy,” said post 268 member Byron Walker.
And here’s the kicker: Tosettis’ birthday is the Fourth of July!
“Everybody celebrates my birthday and America’s birthday. That’s what I love about it,” said Tosetti.
Stand Down says this is the third home it has donated to a veteran in this manner in the past three years.
