President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced his intent to appoint two key allies, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer and 2016 campaign senior adviser David Urban, to serve as members of the boards of visitors for the US Naval Academy and the US Military Academy, respectively.
Since leaving the White House after a tumultuous 182 days on the job, Spicer has kept himself within the Trump orbit, writing a Trump-endorsed book about his time in the White House and, now, serving as a senior adviser to the Trump-aligned America First Action Super PAC.
Spicer, who serves as a commander in the US Navy Reserve, thanked the President for the “honor to serve” in a tweet after the announcement.
Urban has not served in the Trump administration but has been an active cable television surrogate for Trump as a CNN political commentator. He was also appointed by Trump to the American Battle Monuments Commission as its chairman. He is a United States Military Academy at West Point graduate and also served in Iraq in Operation Desert Storm with the 101st Airborne Division.
Spicer and Urban will serve the remainder of three-year terms expiring December 30, 2021.
