• ICE raids begin across the USA. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement was due to begin arresting thousands of undocumented immigrantswith court orders to be removed from the country. President Donald Trump had postponed the operation so Congress could hash out immigration policy, but he repeatedly tweeted about the raids as part of his illegal immigration crackdown.
• Remembering Eric Garner. Loved ones, ministers, community leaders and others plan to gatherto honor Eric Garner, the father whose 2014 chokehold death at the hands of a police officer came to symbolize theBlack Lives Matter movement. Moms who’ve lost sons in cases of alleged police brutality will participate.
• It’s Bastille Day. France celebrates with fireworks andmilitary paradingto mark the opening salvo in 1789 of the French Revolution.
MONDAY
• Jeffrey Epstein could go home. The millionaire is behind bars leading up to a bail hearing. His lawyers are expected to ask a federal judge tolet him prepare for trial under home detention at his $77 million New York mansion. Epstein faces two sex-trafficking charges and has pleaded not guilty.
WEDNESDAY
• El Chapo gets sentenced. After delays, convicted drug lord Joaquín Guzman is again due to learn his fate. A federal judge this monthdenied his bid for a new trial. Prosecutors want him toforfeit more than $12 billion to the US government; his lawyers call that “insane.” Among Guzman’s convictions is engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, which carries a mandatory term of life in prison.
• Never fear. There’s more soccer. The Africa Cup of Nations crowns its top tier, with the third-place match at 3 p.m. ET, and the final at 3 p.m. ET Friday. Watch in the USon beIN Sports.
THURSDAY
• Child separations go under the lens. Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan is due to testifyabout the separation of immigrant families. The hearing follows revelations of overcrowding and children held in filthy conditions at US border facilities.
• Scamming SAT guru gets sentenced. He wasa key playerin the scheme to help wealthy parents buy their kids into choice universities. Mark Riddell learns his punishment for his part in the college admissions scandal that’s snagged dozens of defendants. He pleaded guilty, and the feds want him locked up for about three years.
FRIDAY
• Mike Pompeo heads to South America. The US Secretary of State isset to attend an anti-terrorism summit in Buenos Aires a day after he marks 25 yearssince the bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association building that left 85 people dead and more than 300 wounded. He’s due to stop in El Salvador on his way home.
