FLORENCE – A woman from Florence is making a difference one teddy bear at a time.

Cindy Rivard is a retired teacher who has recently begun sewing teddy bears for kids at Community Medical Center.

Cindy said this project was inspired by her 2-year-old granddaughter Spencer’s reaction when she gave her a bear of her own.

Her original plan was to make 40 bears before Christmas and thanks to community support she says it will be easy to reach her goal.

Rivard plans to distribute the bears at Community Medical Center on December 21.

“I just really think it’s important for them to have something to hold onto to hug which is the main reason I call this project HUGZ,” said Rivard.

The project is entirely funded by donations and Rivard says as long as she has supplies she will keep on crafting.
