MISSOULA – Missoula’s Hawthorne Elementary School Extended Resource teacher Thai Williams is this week’s One Class at a Time grant winner.

Williams, or Mrs. Thai as her students call her, received a $250 check thanks to Republic Services and KPAX-TV.

William’s K-2 special needs students are taught academics, social skills, language, and self-help skills, but Williams says the greatest need for her classroom is toys to work on their play skills.

Thanks to the grant, she bought castles, trains, dolls, and house equipment to increase their interactive and imagination play.

“We’re working on things like sharing, taking turns, letting go of a preferred activity, not getting a preferred activity, and one thing that has come out of it is a lot of friendships,” Williams said.
