LIBBY – Authorities have lifted the pre-evacuation notice that had been in place for residents living near the Gold Hill fire along Pipe Creek Road in Lincoln County.

The notices were lifted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning.  Additionally, Pipe Creek Road is open in the area, however, there is a 25 mph section in place for firefighter safety.

The blaze has burned over 6,500  acres and is 30% contained since being sparked by lightning 13 miles north of Libby

Fire crews are continuing to move structure protection equipment west of Pipe Creek Road while heavy equipment continued road repair and the removal of fuels produced during firefighting efforts.

Private property and structures along the Pipe Creek Road, US Forest Service roads and infrastructure and commercial timber property remain threatened by the fire, according to fire managers.

There are over 40 people still assigned to the Gold Hill fire which was first reported on August 11.
