BONNER – Flu season is just around the corner and health professionals recommend getting that shot sooner than later.

Opportunities are available now in our area for free flu shots — including on Tuesday in Bonner where people came to get a jump on preventing the flu.

The Missoula City-County Health Department and Blue Cross Blue Shield are offering several clinics in smaller communities around the county.

Folks with insurance are asked to bring their cards to the clinic while those who can’t pay will have their costs covered by the Blue Care Van.

“The best way to prevent getting influenza is getting a flu vaccine,” advised the health department’s Colleen Morris. “Ths year, the CDC is recommending you get vaccinated before the end of October, so we’re doing this now, the sooner the better really.”

The clinics also offer free hepatitis C and HIV testing.

The Blue Care Van will be in Seeley Lake at the rural fire station from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday and then will travel to the Clinton Women’s Club on Thursday, also from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
