MISSOULA — Western Montana’s Rocky Mountain Biologicals (RMBIO) has been called on to help the fight against coronavirus.

RMBIO is a serum and cell culture media company that provides raw materials for major pharmaceutical companies.

Community Medical Center reached out to RMBIO early last week in search of a media to transport the swabs they use to test patients for COVID-19.

They responded quickly and, In just a few hours, they were able to communicate with the CDC on the necessary protocols, and found they have the raw materials necessary to meet the needs of CMC and other medical facilities in western Montana and around the state.

“We started doing anything we could to source the materials that we needed for the media that we didn’t already have in house, and we were fortunate that this project just fit our capacity and abilities here and that we had some of the raw materials that would have been otherwise hard to get," RMBIO Chief Operations Officer Jeremy Amberson said.

He told MTN News that having the ability to provide this viral transport media locally will give small clinics around the state an opportunity to have quick access they otherwise wouldn’t.
