HELENA – The Montana Children’s Trust Fund (MCTF) and Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) are partnering to support Montana children and families.

MCTF staff announced this week that they have received a $10,000 sponsorship from BCBSMT.

The money will be used to support Strengthening Families Month activities throughout April like Pinwheels for Prevention and #GoBlue Mondays — programs that help raise awareness about the prevention of child abuse and neglect across Montana.

“We’re honored to join the Children’s Trust Fund to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and help Montana families thrive in their communities,” says John Doran of BCBSMT.

The funds will be used to distribute 400 blue pinwheels statewide for Pinwheels for Prevention and 2000 lapel pins, 1500 tote bags, 200 T-shirts, 500 bibs and other resource materials for the #GoBlue Campaign.

Melissa Lavinder of MCTF says that raising awareness is always great because this is an issue that affects the entire state.

“This is something that involves all Montana communities,” says Lavinder,“The impact will be much greater the more we can work together to raise awareness about the prevention of child abuse and neglect.”

Livider added that by showing your support it lets families know that they’re not alone, "parenting is difficult even under the best of circumstances. All parents need support from family, friends and their communities to thrive,” says Lavinder.

Pinwheels for Prevention uses pinwheels symbolize a happy, healthy childhood and convey the message that every child deserves to be raised in a safe, nurturing environment.

The #GoBlue campaign encourages everyone to wear blue and share their pictures on social media using the every Monday in April to show support of Montana families and child abuse prevention.

This is the fourth year that Blue Cross Blue Shield has sponsored Strengthening Families Month and MT CTF and this April marks the 35th anniversary of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
