HELENA – Montana regulators are preparing additional adjustments to the rules for the state’s medical marijuana program.
The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services filed proposed new rules with the Secretary of State’s office for review on Tuesday.
The proposals will be made public in the next few weeks, once that review is finished. They will then have to go through public comment before being implemented.
DPHHS created a set of rules this year to implement Senate Bill 333, a 2017 law that extensively reformed the medical marijuana system. Those rules are scheduled to go into effect Apr. 10.
Agency leaders have said their proposed changes will address some concerns raised about the initial rules, including one that would allow medical marijuana providers up to 50 square feet of growing space for every patient they serve.
During a legislative hearing last month, DPHHS regulators said that amount of space was far more than what is necessary.
