MISSOULA – Months after construction began on upgrades to Hellgate High School, crews say they are on schedule with the project.

Jackson Contractor Group Operations Manager, Bill Fritz, says they have just completed the demolition phase of the project and are working on the upgrade of the heating and ventilation system. The next step is starting the erection of the steel support beams in the new library.

Fritz says the upgrade hasn’t always been smooth sailing, as years of construction projects of the school have presented challenges.

“This school has one phase built in 1908, 1920s, 1930s, 40s. All the way up," Fritz said. "The last addition was in the 70s, so there’s been some surprises or unforeseen in there, but we’re still planning on getting it opened up by December.”

As construction moves forward, some of the areas of the school that have been blocked off to students will begin to open up.
