EVERGREEN – Voters have turned down a mill levy request by the Evergreen Fire District.
The final tally was 953 votes in favor and 1,222 votes against the proposal.
The district has been struggling with how to continue to provide current levels of service with increasing call volumes, personnel turnover, and challenging revenue shortfalls.
Taxes on a home valued at $100,000 would have increased by about $84 per year.
Voters approved a five-year levy providing about $145,000 per year in 2014, but that measure will expire next June.
