GREAT FALLS – The snow that was recently seen along the Hi-Line has added insult to injury for Montana farmers.
As temperatures rise, the snow melts and that water floods fields and yards.
One farmer in Shelby says this time last year, they already had seeds in the ground. But he’s hoping this is the last of the snow so they will still have a good season.
“We’re nervous because it could mean a disaster or we could end up having, if it’s a cool, wet summer, we could end up having one of the best years we’ve ever had with all this moisture,” said Nick Welker, a farmer at Welker farms.
Once the ground dries some, the Welkers will be planting peas, lentils, and chickpeas.
