MISSOULA – Over 290 community garden plots will be rented to more than 230 Missoula households at Garden City Harvest’s nine community garden sites.

Garden City Harvest hosted their Community Garden Opening Day on Saturday where each person has access to a 15′ x 15′ plot, tools, water, compost, straw, community space — and the guidance of garden leaders.

Garden City Harvest Community Outreach Director Genevieve Jessop Marsh says that the best piece of this program is being able to interact with other members of the community.

"I think one of the biggest things about community gardens people in this world are searching for a place to connect with others in meaningful ways and the community gardens are just a wonderful place to do that. As well as providing food for their families in an affordable way," Jessop Marsh said.

The cost is a $40 plot fee, plus a $20 refundable deposit. All of the plots for this year are taken, but if you are interested in your own community garden plot, you can apply online or over the phone and be placed on a waiting list.
