Officer involved in shots fired at Big Sky HS returns to duty

MISSOULA – The school resource officer who fired his gun at the fleeing vehicle of at Big Sky High School last month has returned to duty.

Missoula Police spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says that the department has received the investigative report from the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation about the “Officer Involved Shooting” that occurred at Big Sky High School on March.

Sgt. Welsh says that while the criminal investigation and the MPD Internal Investigations are on-going, Officer Jeff Lloyd has returned to work in an Administrative Duty Assignment within the police department.

Court documents state that upon investigation, a student’s backpack was searched, and while attempting to search the student’s car, the juvenile fled the scene, making it to his car before he could be caught.

The student fled in his blue Audi and the SRO said he fired his weapon several times to prevent the juvenile from running him over. During the chase, the officer claimed the juvenile tossed away his gun before crashing on Reserve Street.
