MISSOULA – Some of the best Native American dancers and drum groups in North America gathered at the University of Montana on Friday and Saturday for the 50th Annual Kyiyo Celebration.

The event was hosted at the UM Adams Center by the Kyiyo Native American Student Association with this year’s theme being “Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future.”

The powwow provided the Native American community to share its culture with the UM campus, Missoula and each other.

The celebration included a family team dance and an art exhibit to honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, as well as a hand drum contest in memory of those lost to suicide.

Organizers say the cost of hosting the powwow has risen in recent years so the club actively fundraises year-round.
