MISSOULA – The developer who is converting the old Missoula Mercantile site into the city’s newest hotel says he still hasn’t settled on what will happen to the old adjacent Firestone tire store.

Contractors have finished “closing in” the new Marriott Hotel, which is slated for an opening by the end of the year. And restaurants and retailers are signing letters of intent for the ground floor commercial space.

But the future of the old Firestone store, which stills has some of its purple paint from its stint as an Expert Tire location, remains up in the air.

Developer Andy Holloran of Home Base Montana says the space is currently being used for the model hotel room that’s been built inside, and for construction offices. But he says his team is completely open to ideas about what will happen on the corner of Pattee and Main.

“And so that’s in there. And we use it for construction offices and staging," Holloran said. "We think there’s a variety of potential uses, residential, we think office, it could be. And frankly we’re open to ideas.”

Coming up at 10 tonight, we’ll give an exclusive first look inside the new Marriott Hotel.
