BOZEMAN – Hundreds of Montana junior high students attended a mentor workshop at Montana State University over the weekend.

The workshop was called “Expanding Your Horizons” and was to empower middle school girls to learn about science, technology, engineering and math.

The students went to four different hands-on activities that were led by women MSU students. These activities ranged from learning about architecture to analyzing DNA.

Bella Smith, a seventh grade student from Terry, Montana, said this conference is a different way to learn.

“These are opportunities that a small town like ours doesn’t get very often because we usually have to participate in things separately because we don’t, our school either doesn’t have the budget or the time but it’s a great opportunity to have,” said Smith.

Smith says one day she hopes to one day go into technological engineering.
