FLORENCE – A recently announced grant will allow the Florence Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a new ambulance.

The department received a $162,000 grant from the State of Montana Department of Transportation to buy the ambulance, as well as a $25,000 grant from the American Heart Association for a new heart monitor to be used in medical emergencies.

This new ambulance will replace an older ambulance currently in use by the department, and this new ambulance will contain state of art medical equipment and the vehicle will have updated safety equipment.

Fire Chief Charlie Lambson says that the new ambulance is another upgrade for the department, along with a new structure fire engine that was recently purchased from funds of a voter-approved levy to replace an older fire engine.

Chief Lambson says that as the community keeps growing and the calls for service continue to increase the department has been able to increase the number of volunteers on the department and continue to replace older, unsafe fire apparatus.
