LOLO – Fire crews were spread thin at times on Sunday as several open burns blew out of control.
One controlled burn started to spread near Travelers Rest State Park in Lolo on Sunday morning but was contained by fire crews.
Although it’s still spring, high winds plus hot and dry days still make it dangerous to conduct burns unsupervised and without proper management.
General outdoor burning season runs from March 1 through August 31 in Missoula County, however, permits are almost always required.
The Missoula City-County Health Department and the Missoula County Fire Protection Association strongly urge citizens to get permits early and conduct
Missoula city residents must have one acre of land to obtain a burn permit.
Burn permits will cost $5 and can be obtained online or at the health department during normal business hours at 301 West Alder Street in Missoula.
