BOZEMAN – Recreation experts from all over Montana made the trip to Montana State University to talk about the future of public lands in the state.
The Greater Yellowstone Coalition and MSU’s College of Letters and Science held the "Our Shared Place: The Present and Future of Recreation in Greater Yellowstone" symposium on Monday and Tuesday.
The Greater Yellowstone Area is over 35,000 square miles and has Yellowstone National Park right in the middle. The coalition asked everyone who attended for ideas in maintaining access to public lands while keeping the area in good shape.
Event organizer Brooke Regan says transportation, price, and accessibility to public lands are all issues that Greater Yellowstone faces.
“I mean I don’t think that a conversation like this, on this topic, has really been convened at this scale or this variety of perspectives. So I think that really the first step was to get everyone in the same room to start to share our ideas and see what came from it,” said Regan.
Regan says this event was to open up the conversation about what needs to happen in the future. She says the next step is taking the ideas and putting them into action.
