Hikers discover man’s body near Mount Helena

HELENA – Two people hiking discovered the remains of a man near the 400 block of West Main Street in Helena at around 3 p.m. on Friday.

The Helena Police Department said the body appeared as if it had been there “for some time.” It was discovered about 100 yards from West Main Street behind some apartments buildings.

Lewis and Clark County Coroner Bryan Backeberg said the body has been transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy and he believes the circumstances are “very suspicious.”

Helena Police said there is no threat to the public at this time.
