MISSOULA – Runners took advantage of Saturday morning’s beautiful weather to take part in the annual Riverbank Run.

Streets were cordoned off on Saturday as hundreds of runners darted down Higgins and through the University district for the four scheduled races. The Missoula YMCA hosted a 10K, a 5K, a trifecta with competitive timing and a short one-mile fun run.

Missoula Mayor John Engen says that the event is well suited for such a running oriented community.

"It’s an acknowledgment that we’re a rover community and we’ve become such a running community," Mayor Engen said. "The enthusiasm for people operating under their own two legs is pretty amazing. It’s just healthy, and happy and the people are grooving on it, and that’s a wonderful thing."

The annual run has been going strong for 46 years.
