MISSOULA – Prescribed burning is taking place in the Rattlesnake Recreation Area on Tuesday.

The Missoula Ranger District is asking that folks use caution as roads and trails used as control lines could be temporarily impacted by low-intensity fire and smoke.

When traveling near a slope, be aware that rolling material from the burn area as well as overhead hazards such as falling trees could pose a threat to your safety. Avoiding areas adjacent to prescribed burning is recommended.

The Sawmill 12 understory prescribed burn is approximately 125 acres and aims to reduce surface fuel loadings as well as provide for long-term ecosystem health and scenic landscapes desirable for recreational use.
