MISSOULA – A controlled burn is set to take place over the next several days on Mount Sentinel.

City contractors will be burning logging debris on the southwest face of Mt. Sentinel from approximately May 17 to May 22, weather permitting.

The contractor has an active burn permit and local emergency services are aware of the activity, according to Missoula Parks and Recreation.

Residents may see substantial smoke from the valley floor. There is no need to call 911 or Missoula Fire to report smoke sightings.

The burning is part of a joint City of Missoula/University of Montana project to thin almost 70 acres of forest on top of Mount Sentinel.
