MISSOULA – The Ty Robinson scholarship fund received a $5,000 donation on Wednesday in the Florence building.

Robinson, who recently passed away at the age of 102, was born in Columbia Falls but is a legend here in Missoula.

He graduated from the University of Montana where he also played for the basketball team. After graduation, Robinson attended the UM law school and became a founding member in the Galrington, Lohn and Robinson law firm.

"Ty Robinson was a pilgrim in this community and when he passed we decided we wanted to do an endowment fund through the Rotary Foundation to create a thousand dollar scholarship to a graduate of a Missoula area high school to the University of Montana," Missoula Rotary Foundation President and Chairman Robert Minto said.

"Well, we couldn’t think of a better way to represent Ty than through education, and we wanted to support Missoula County schools and also support the University of Montana, which were both big entities in Ty’s life," Minto added.

Wednesday’s donation puts the fund closer to its $20,000 donation goal which now sits at a little over $11,000.
