KALISPELL – Flathead Valley Community College graduated its 50th class during the college’s spring commencement ceremony on Friday.

FVCC recognized almost 400 students for completing graduation requirements during the 2017–2018 academic year and awarded 345 associates degrees and 48 certificates — with some students earning more than one.

College president Jane Karas says the majority of their students are from Flathead and Lincoln counties and that most will stick around after graduation to pursue jobs in their programs.

"Law enforcement, health care, nurses, radiological technicians, surgical technicians, physical therapy assistants, I could go on and on with the number of programs we have," Karas said. "But many students will stay here and continue to raise their families here and support the Valley."

The featured speaker was FVCC alum and astrophysicist Dr. Sarah Rugheimer who also graduated from Harvard.
