KALISPELL – High and fast-moving water has prompted state officials to issue an emergency closure for a portion of Noxon Reservoir.

At the request of the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office and Avista Corporation, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has temporarily closed Noxon Reservoir for recreational use from the mouth of Blacktail Creek downstream to Noxon Rapids Dam.

Heavy debris in the reservoir took out an emergency barrier near the dam. The closure applies to all water-based recreation, including, but not limited to: wading, swimming, fishing, floating, boating.

Signs announcing the closure are being posted and will be removed when the rule is no longer effective. The rule is effective while dangerous conditions exist and will expire as soon as FWP and partners determine the area is safe for recreational use.
