KPAX Archives: The Hiawatha Trail

We go back to 2009 for this edition of the KPAX Archives and take a look at the Hiawatha Trail.

The Hiawatha Trail opens for the season on Saturday, May 25 at 8:30 a.m.

This marks the 20 th year of the popular trail that 15 miles from Mineral County to Lookout Pass.

It features 10 train tunnels and seven high trestles. The ride starts with a ride through the 1.66 mile long St. Paul Pass Tunnel and follows the crest of the Bitterroot Mountains near Lookout Pass Ski Area.  

The family-friendly trail is all downhill with shuttle buses available to transport you and your bike back to the top.  This family friendly trail is easily enjoyed by a wide variety of people from young children to super seniors.
