WHITEFISH – A widespread power outage caused by a squirrel north of Whitefish forced Whitefish Mountain Resort to shut down for part of Sunday.
Flathead Electric Cooperative reports the squirrel got into the substation and "was frying up a bunch of stuff!"
Several crews were sent immediately to fix the issue and power was back up and running within a few hours.
FEC says it is common during the summer months for squirrels to cause power outages, as they climb on the lines.
However, we were told there is a "squirrel guard" mechanism to help keep the animals from disrupting service.
