MISSOULA – A firefighter with more than 25 years experience with the Missoula Fire Department is poised to take over as the city’s new fire chief, if the Missoula City Council goes along with Mayor John Engen’s recommendation.

Fire Chief Jason Diehl retired as Missoula Fire Chief in June, stepping down after just over six years as Missoula’s top firefighter.

Now, Engen is moving to appoint Jeff Brandt as the new Missoula Fire Chief.

Brandt was born and raised in Montana and has been the Assistant Chief of Operations for Missoula Fire for the past six years. He started with Missoula Fire in 1992 and has filed a variety assignments. He started as a firefighter in Lewistown in 1982 and spent 10 years as a firefighter with the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard, three of those years overseas.

The council will be asked to confirm Brandt’s appointment next week.
