KALISPELL – A pair of Wisconsin teens were rescued from the Jewel Basin by Two-Bear Air Rescue earlier this week.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were rescued after hiking in the Jewel Basin on Tuesday.

Sheriff Curry says they were on a camping trip and were not prepared for the weather that came about. They found themselves in snow, were not able to start a fire and became hypothermic

Flathead Search and Rescue — along with the ALERT helicopter and Two Bear Air responded to the scene.

“We do have a lot of tourists who wind up recreating in our backcountry in the summer.  A lot of them are not from mountainous regions and don’t realize that here in the Valley floor the weather may be 70 degrees but at 8,000 feet in elevation, overnight trips, the weather can change significantly," Sheriff Curry says.

He added that they were hoisted into the aircraft brought to a local hospital and doing okay now.
