DEER LODGE – Montana State Prison interim warden Jim Salmonsen announced Wednesday that inmate visitation will soon be temporarily reduced from four to two days a week while the prison addresses operational issues.

Salmonsen said that Montana State Prison is canceling inmate visitation on Thursdays and Fridays beginning Aug. 16th in order to allow staff to be reassigned to higher priority security posts. The reduction will be in effect until further notice.

Beginning the third week of August, the prison will be open for inmate visitation only on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Montana State Prison recognizes the importance of visitation; however, safety and security of the facility is our top priority.  We will return to normal visitation hours as soon as possible,” Salmonsen said. “We are hoping that by getting the word out ahead of time, family and friends are able to plan accordingly.”

The Montana State Prison toll-free phone message service will provide scheduling updates beginning Aug. 16th at 1-888-739-9122.
