HOT SPRINGS – Over 160 firefighters continue to battle a wildfire that’s continuing to burn about two miles from Hot Springs.

This lightning-caused Garden Creek fire started on July 29th at just 12 acres but has now grown to more than 520 — and is only about 5% contained.

Personnel from the CSKT Division of Fire and a Type 3 Incident Management Team continue work on the fire burning near Coney Peak at elevations above 5,000 feet.

Crews are working to build fire control lines and have been using explosives on the steep, rocky west flank to eliminate the threat to firefighters. Helicopters have also continued to drop water on hot spots.

No structures are threatened near the Garden Creek fire and there are no evacuation notices.

Most of Sanders County remains under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions and fire officials say that Stage 2 Fire Restrictions may be implemented later this week.
