FLORENCE – The Florence softball team will be getting a new field, and on Wednesday they started pouring cement to create the dugout and backstop.

The Florence Falcons have won 10 state titles in the past 19 years and Florence coach Rob Ralls says they hope to have the new field ready for the start of the season to defend their most recent title.

The new field is next to the Florence football field, which should allow the Falcons to host more youth games, and maybe even invitational tournaments.

Job Corps assisted in the concrete pouring and the concrete was donated by the Donaldson Brothers.

Once the softball field is completed, Florence will move its attention to putting in a new football practice field behind the softball stadium.

The total project cost is estimated to be in the $100,000 range and is being funded entirely by boosters and the Florence community.
