PLAINS – The Granite County Sheriff’s Office says a wildfire has started west of Weeksville Creek and north of Highway 200 on U.S. Forest Service protection.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.

The Plains Dispatch Center has sent all available local resources, including USFS, DNRC, and Thompson Falls and Plains Rural Fire Department personnel to fight the fire.

Multiple structures are threatened, and several helicopters are already working the fire with bucket drops from the nearby Clark Fork River.

The GCSO says that other air support in the forms of air tankers, helicopters and crews are inbound to the fire.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
