Containment reaches 50% at 2,000 acre Garden Creek fire

HOT SPRINGS – The 2,000 acre Garden Creek fire burning near the town of Hot Springs is now 50% contained.

A total of 167 people are assigned to fight the lightning-sparked blaze which broke out on July 29th and continues to burn in several small drainages on Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribal land.

The recent calming of the fire has allowed fire managers to release some of the resources and personnel assigned to the fire.

Personnel from the CSKT Division of Fire and a Type 3 Incident Management Team continue work on the blaze that’s burning in steep and rocky terrain.

The following roads have been closed in the vicinity of the Garden Creek fire:

  • HS-4000 road
  • HS-5000 road
  • HS-1000 road at the HS-5030 junction to the north of the fire
  • HS-1000 road at the McGinnis road junction to the south of the fire.
