Firefighters contain Bitterroot National Forest wildfires

HAMILTON – A series of thunderstorms that moved across the Bitterroot National Forest on Friday sparked four new fires.

Forest officials report that a quick response by firefighters and aviation resources three of the fires are currently controlled or out.

The fourth is not showing any activity following several bucket drops.

Fire crews and lookouts will be monitoring this afternoon for more possible fires due to numerous lightning strikes from Friday’s storms.

Firefighters have responded to 19 wildfires this summer on the Bitterroot National Forest.
