SPRINGDALE – Authorities have recovered the body of a teenage boy who went missing in the Yellowstone River last month.

Park County Sheriff Scott Hamilton and Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said in a joint statement that officials received information on Sunday from a fisherman.

Members of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately and recovered the body of James Anderson, the son of Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jim Anderson.

The boy went missing on July 24th during a family rafting trip. The family’s boat capsized near Livingston, and Jim Anderson’s wife, Angie, died at the scene. Jim Anderson and his daughter made it safely to shore.

"We are thankful to be able to return James to his family. When such an unimaginable tragedy occurs, it reminds us of what really matters, family and friends," the sheriffs said in the statement.

"We have many thanks to share in the days to come but we are truly blessed to live in a place where people genuinely care about each other, even if strangers. Thank you all for the overwhelming support!"
