Davis fire grows 6,200 acres near Yaak

LIBBY – The Davis Fire added a couple of hundred acres on Monday and now stands at 6,205 acres since being sparked by lightning on July 29th.

There are now 186 people battling the blaze that’s burning in remote terrain approximately 10 miles northwest of Yaak in Lincoln County. 

Fire managers report firefighters continued to build and improve firelines on Monday.

Assessments are now being made for structure protection in the Yaak River corridor.

The Northwest Peak Lookout, Garver Mountain Lookout, a whitebark pine protection area and a SNOTEL site could be potentially threatened should the fire spread.

The Davis fire was just 8% contained as of Tuesday morning.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions remain in effect for Lincoln County.  Additionally, an Air Quality Alert issued by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality remains in effect in Lincoln County.
