New mapping shows Gold Hill fire near Libby at 1,100+ acres

LIBBY – New mapping shows that the Gold Hill fire that’s burning 13 miles north of Libby has burned an estimated 1,166 acres.

Pre-evacuation notices remain in effect for residents between mile marker 11 and mile marker 13 on the Pipe Creek Road. Structure protection crews are be scouting and preparing homes in case the Gold Hill fire does move into the area.

Fire managers report that the blaze remains north of Noisy Creek and east of Pipe Creek Road 68, about two miles northeast of the residences in the area of mile marker 10.

The fire has crossed part of the West Branch of Noisy Creek and crews are preparing for firing operations to protect structures and private commercial timber property.

There are 69 people assigned to fight the lightning-sparked blaze which was 0% contained as of Wednesday morning.
