MISSOULA – Missoula Police have released more details of the events leading up to Thursday’s high-speed pursuit that began in downtown Missoula and ended in Idaho.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Michael Murray of Spokane, Washington, was taken into custody without incident.

Missoula Police Department spokesperson Travis Welsh says it all started when dispatch received a call of a vehicle littering and police stopped a vehicle that fit the description near the 200 block of East Broadway around 3:30 p.m.

When police stopped the vehicle there was a female driving with two male passengers. Welsh says police recognized one of the passengers as Murray and recalled that he had a criminal past in Washington that might include outstanding warrants.

While checking Murray’s record, the driver of the vehicle asked to get out because of the heat.

Once the woman had exited the vehicle, Murray moved over to the driver seat and took off.

Hours later, police finally stopped Murray in Idaho. He is currently in the Idaho County jail and could face charges in multiple states.
