MISSOULA – A local woman has been helping out in Hawaii in wake of Hurricane Lame which inundated the island chain with up to 40" of rain on parts of the Big Island over the past several days.
Montana Red Cross volunteer Toni Taylor arrived in Hawaii late last week as part of a team that set up shelters and helped to get residents prepared for the storm.
She told MTN News that when she arrived in Hawaii, she was a little nervous about what was going to happen when the storm hit, but she’s been in hurricanes before and was ready for the worst.
We spoke with her on Friday afternoon via Facebook.
“We are expecting tropical storm force winds later on this evening from 70 to 120 miles per hour with significant rain but they haven’t been told how much we’re going to be getting," Taylor said ahead of the storm.
She added that anyone who would like to help to send donations to redcross.org. Taylor spent part of the summer helping flood victims in the Midwest and assisted after the mass shooting in Las Vegas last year.
