WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Department of Agriculture reported that first payments to agriculture producers hurt in United States trade disputes will go out in the next few weeks.

The first payments will go out on September 4th to producers of soybeans, wheat, corn, cotton, dairy, hogs, and sorghum. Overall, the USDA has authorized nearly $4.7 billion for this first round.

Soybean farmers will get the largest share of the disbursement with just over $3.6 billion as China has levied a 25% tariff on soybeans among other U.S. goods.

The Farm Service Agency will distribute the payments and farmers can apply after their harvest is 100% complete. Payments will be based on how severe the impact from the trade dispute was on the producer.

The government will use another $1.2 billion to buy food and redistribute it through programs such as the Emergency Food Assistance Program and child nutrition programs.

As much as $12 billion has been authorized for various programs to help farmers offset losses from the trade disputes.
