BUTTE – It’s nearly lights, camera, action for the 3rd annual Covelite International Film Festival which wraps up Butte’s summer festivals for the year.
“It’s going to be a great event and I hope a lot of people come out,” said festival Executive Director Don Andrews.
It costs about $70,000 a year to put on this festival. Much of the money this year is being put toward advertising so that they can bring more people to the festival this year.
“I hope we can fill this place up with as many filmmakers and audience as we can. We’re doing a lot bigger push this year to reach more people and to bring more people in,” Andrews said.
This year’s festival is going to be more compact so that visitors will have an easier time to walk Uptown to get to each event.
“Really want to make this a more walkable festival, so basically everything is down Broadway,” he said.
Festival organizers are also trying to encourage lawmakers to create more incentives so filmmakers want to come to Montana to make films.
“Films are million dollar businesses that are going to be here a few months to a year, you know, if we can build up the facilities to do post work and marketing and a few other things, that’s more money that we can put back to the town,” Andrews said.
Putting the spotlight on Butte. The festival runs Sept. 12th through 16th.
