Law enforcement authorities, including Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, responded to a report of a possible bear attack near Eureka on Monday morning but did not find any evidence of an attack.

Around 8 a.m. Monday morning, a witness reported hearing what they thought was someone yelling for help on Rails to Trails between Eureka and Rexford.

Multiple officers responded and searched the area and found no evidence of a bear attack, or an injured individual.

Wildlife officials say they did see four different bears in separate family groups in the area and the cubs were very vocal, which may have been what the witness originally heard.

Authorities have no reason to believe that there was a human-bear encounter or that anyone was injured. Rumors of the possible attack spread on social media and elsewhere, prompting this report.
