Yellowstone National Park turns 148

BILLINGS - Yellowstone National Park became America's first federally protected national park in by an act of Congress signed into law in 1872.

The park, with over 2.2 million acres, is so vast that it includes parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.

Yellowstone National Park is a designated World Heritage Site.

This means it is a spot set aside in accordance with the United Nations to be protected for future generations.

The park is known for its geysers and geothermal attractions. The area contains around half of the world's geysers.

Yellowstone Park also is designated Biosphere Reserve, meaning that it is a demonstration of the relationship between humans and nature.
