MISSOULA — Sentinel High School is reporting a second positive COVID-19 case.

Sentinel principal Ryan Rettig emailed parents on Wednesday that the school was informed of a positive case by the Missoula City-County Health Department on Wednesday.

According to the email, the individual was last in the Sentinel facilities on Sept. 11. Sentinel reported its first positive COVID-19 case back on Sept. 3.

MCCHD is in the process of conducting contact tracing to identify close contacts to the positive case. The health department has identified a small number of close contacts by talking with the confirmed positive case. No other information about the case was released.

Based on the results of the case, a school closure has not been recommended.

"We will follow MCCHD guidance and directions regarding individuals released from quarantine and/or isolation," Rettig wrote. "We will not allow the individual and any close contacts back into school facilities until they are released from isolation or quarantine by the health department. We continue our thorough and frequent cleaning and disinfection of all areas throughout our school facilities."
