HELENA — An estimate of around 80 vehicles were damaged over the weekend in a string of vandalism, throughout the Helena Valley, and within the city limits.

"Just several reports of vehicles being damaged, a majority of them were windows, windshields, that appeared to have been shot out,” Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Captain Kevin Wright said.

Late Saturday night, into Sunday morning both the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office and the Helena Police Department received call after call, reporting vandalism to parked vehicles.

"As we were coming, we would get a call of damage to one vehicle, as they roll through the neighborhood, they were seeing four or five or six other vehicles that were obviously damaged in the same manner,” Wright said.

Helena Police Department Captain Curt Stinson says they received an influx of phone calls. He believes between 30 and 40 more vehicles were damaged within city limits, bringing the total to around 80 damaged vehicles.

Law enforcement told MTN News they have identified and located a vehicle believed to have been involved, along with multiple suspects; because they are juveniles, their names will not be released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, but the public should not be concerned.

"I would hate to see people having to move their vehicles or do something different just because of this incident, we feel it is isolated and there is not an ongoing threat,” Wright added.
